International Test Cricket

Quick competition

Prize : Full version of Internet Test Cricket.

In Internet Test Cricket I had to choose a default port (above 1024) for games played over the Internet. I ended up choosing 2257. Why? There is a reason although if I get some good original reasons for selecting 2257 I will also include them in the virtual hat. Closing date for entries end of March.

A couple of hints

bulletIt is not related to cricket at all
bulletIt is not my birthdate! I am not that old :-)

From the Babylon 5 's episode "The Gathering 2257".

It began in the Earth year 2257, with the founding of the last of the Babylon stations, located deep in neutral space. It was a port of call for refugees, smugglers, businessmen, diplomats and travellers from a hundred worlds. It could be a dangerous place, but risk was accepted, because Babylon 5 was the last, best hope for peace.

I am a huge fan of this excellent Sci-Fi series as people who read my old whoami page may remember.

3 people got the correct answer:

bulletAditya Mandavilli
bulletPaul Sumner (winner picked from virtual hat)

Some interesting answers:

bulletAlistair Atkinson - It will take until the year 2257 until England will be competitive with Australia again :-)
bulletJulian French - because you get paid $2257 a week. I wish :-)
bulletMatthew Harbour - You chose it because it is exactly 53.7380952380952380952380952380952 times the answer to "life, the universe and everything" (42). Many thanks to D.Adams for that!.
bulletNathan West - That was the number of bugs found in EA Sport's Cricket World Cup 99.
bulletBarry Lowe - It's the number of copies of ITC you had sold at that stage. Again I wish :-) The actual number sold to date is about 600.
bulletMatthew Harbour - Is was the day 2/2/57 that Buddy Holly and the CRICKETS (the clever bit) released their first single? I know is was in Feb 57 from an encyclopaedia but it doesn't say the day.
