Cricket 2002 was released in the UK today.

Tuesday, 18 December 2001

Cricket 2002 has been released in New Zealand. There are already several posts regarding it on the Forum.

There have been some unsubstantiated rumours that Cricket 2002 may be released earlier than original stated in the UK. It may be released on the 28th December. If the rumours are false the current release date is 2nd February.

Wednesday, 5 December 2001

Development on the game has been completed. Anticipated release dates are before Christmas in Aus/NZ and mid January in the UK. Note the decision to withhold release in the UK is totally down to EA and nothing to do with HB Studios.

On the Forum it has been discussed that Cricket 2002 has been reviewed in 2 magazines recently. In the Official PlayStation 2 Magazine it scored 8/10 and in Gamesmaster a disappointing 43%. Hopefully more details on these reviews when I get them.

Observant people will notice the logo at the top of this page has changed. This was taken from the HB-Studios page and is more than likely the official logo.

I have received lots of emails about Cricket 2002 and lack of a PC version (at this time - see below). There is no need to send any more as I think EA are aware of the request.

Received the following email from Derek Proud.

Hiya Dan,

Been reading the feedback on the site about a PC version, I'd really like to clarify the position. At this time, I certainly won't rule out a PC version, in fact it remains a distinct possibility. It's the only way to get sales in India, which though a small market, has good opportunities for OEM deals. Certainly in response to your quote below, it is NOT set in stone that there will be no PC version, and never has been. I also should take this opportunity not to rule out X-Box, Game Boy Advance or GameCube (though the latter is probably more remote).

Talk to you soon,

Derek

Received the following email earlier this week.

Hi there,

My name is Derek Proud and I'm a Producer for Electronic Arts currently working on our new Cricket game. We have a new team, HB-Studios in Canada and you can find out more about our game from the website which just went live

http://www.easportscricket.com

There is not a lot there but as we are very early in development there is not a lot to show. The early developmental stuff is looking really cool and I have a great deal of confidence in the team, the lead programmer and one of the other main programmers were the leads on the Brian Lara Cricket game.

Anyway, we'd love to see ourselves posted on the Commercial games section of your website! We will be releasing in November. Please let me know if you'd like more information!

Whilst delighted to hear that there is a new cricket game in development I am personally very disappointed that there is no PC version. I have no intentions of getting a PS/2 just for one game. The reason apparently is that the PC version of Cricket 2000 sold far less than the PSX version. Nothing to do with the fact that Cricket 2000 was an appalling game and on the PC Brian Lara Cricket was out on budget and a vastly superior game. If like me, you are disappointed in the lack of a PC version let me know and I will forward all comments on to Mr Proud.

At least this time Creative Assembly are seemingly not doing the development. This will the third development house working on the EA Cricket series so hopefully it will be third time lucky. As two of the team behind Brian Lara are working on the new version we can live in hope.

Added Features page - added the features listed on the EA site.

Added Feedback page - send me your feedback on the game.

Added Links page - added link to the official EA site.
