A lot of people have been emailing me about the forthcoming I2Ed editor. I do not know when it will be released. I am a beta tester but have not received any details in weeks. Also due to problems at UK Sports with its hosted sites Indigo, ICC International and the I2Ed homepages are currently unreachable. Hopefully these sites will be available again by the end of next week. Update - Andrew Drinkwater has posted a message in the ICC forum stating

'The editor is currently on ice. Why? Because we have received nothing from any of our testers. Not a jot, not a mail not even a 'thank you for sending me the beta - it arrived safely'. Its getting towards a point where we're going to get rid of all the people who volunteered to test for us and ask people who we can rely on (Dave, Tony, Tyrone et al spring to mind). We'll try our best to finish this editor off as soon as possible because I'm dying to play some of the things that we did for ICC in the all-new engine. Two divisional world league, anyone? - Andrew Drinkwater'

Now this is very strange as I have not yet received a beta version of the editor to test.

The following was posted to the Official ICC forum recently.

The release date for International Cricket Captain 2 has slipped to July 23. Sorry about this but we have no choice.
Brian
Empire

Subsequent to this message there have been reports it has been further delayed until July 30 or July 26. July 30 is more likely release date in shops as 99% of games are released on a friday. Pre-orders could be shipped from 26 July if this date is accurate.

Another idea for the competition.

Anton Schaffer suggested

How about you post some pictures of some of the all time greats. These pictures would be them in their youth. You then post next to those pictures, pictures of what they look like now. And the competition entrants have to much the younger photo to the recent photo. I am sure we could find these pictures on CricInfo..... Not sure if I like this idea as would need research to get photos (unless someone can supply a suitable set) and as Anton himself pointed out in his email does not relate much to ICC 2.

Monday, 5 July 1999

Updated Screenshots page - added 15 screenshot that are part of the Webmasters pack by Empire.

Had a few suggestions for competitions. Not yet decided which one to use, might end up using more than one format. If you have some other suggestions not listed below please send them in.

Ben Wilson suggested

1) You could run a reality quiz where the person predicts certain aspects of the real game.

This is a nice idea but means making the competition run over a longer period of time whilst actual events occur.

2) You could get people to put in ideas for maybe ICC 2 updates and the best ideas win.

Would expand it to say what updates would be nice but also get people to includes the teams/players accordingly. This was the idea I wanted to implement.

3) Why not give the copies to the people who have done the most for ICC and can prove it like Andrew Drinkwater etc.

Sounds nice and fair but Empire might get a bit upset. Also open to abuse as people try to pursuade me they have done a lot for ICC.

Lachlan Monfries suggested

You could ask Brian for a list of players that he thought made up the ultimate 11 in ICC 1 and then get people to send in their best 11's from the game. Whoever has the closest best 11 to Brian's best 11 could win the game. You could set it up so that each person has to choose 5 batsmen, an allrounder, a wicky and 4 bowlers. And only 1 overseas player can be in the team.

Like this idea, could get both Chris and Brian to dominate their own teams. Will email them and ask them if they have time from completing ICC 2 to dominate a team.

Anton Schaffer suggested

Idea 1- One idea is asking a couple of questions based on the first ICC.

Example Questions:
1 - If your team had to win every game in the county championship, with maximum points, what would be your total amount of points at the end of the season? (this would most probably send most people back to ICC trying to work out the points system)
2 - Name 3 new features about ICC 2. (this would most probably cause the user to browse your site looking for the answers, therefore extra hits to your site - not that you need it..... :)
3 - In ICC2, when you tour other countries, will you be able to play against local cricket teams?? (obvious yes/no question)

Was trying to avoid simple question style competition.

Idea 2 - Alternatively, you could place maybe 5 cricket bats/balls in various places on your website causing the entrant to browse your site looking for the object. This way you could get browsers to visit less frequented pages on your site which you think should gain more exposure. The entrant then has give send in the names of those pages on which they found the object.... I have seen this idea in use before, and it really works.... Besides getting more exposure to the less frequented pages.....

This idea might work although people might not like having to trawl around the site. Does as you say though increase exposure to some pages that might not have much. Might consider doing this for 1 copy though.

My Empire ICC 2 baseball cap arrived today :-) Perfect for the 1st days play at Edgbaston tomorrow.

No ideas have yet been sent in for the ICC 2 competition. Maybe the best idea submitted for a competition that will benefit ICC 2 (but not require it) will win one of the 10 copies I have available as prizes. Entries must be sent in by Friday so I can set up the competition over the weekend.

I-2 have updated their site and are planning to release some of the Total Conversions they did for ICC as Indigo for ICC 2. This would require the need for an editor which there are no details available yet obviously although I wouldn't be surprised of Chau Le the author of ICEd was involved.

Updated Previews page - added Preview by Andrew Drinkwater webmaster of I-2 and Indigo.

Monday, 28 June 1999

Heard from Empire today that the release has been put back one week to Friday, 16 July. Gives me a chance to think up a competition for the 10 copies I will have available as prizes. Any ideas please send them in. I was thinking along lines of doing All Time Great squads for each county/test country in case an editor becomes available for the game. Ideally want something that could benefit the game so squad details is an obvious choice.

Updated Feedback page - added feedback from Matt Lane (multiplayer ICC) and Hugh Bradley.

Wednesday, 23 June 1999

Heard back from Empire that overseas (outside UK) people requesting the demo CD-ROM of ICC 2 will have to pay postage.

Updated Previews page - added link to online preview by GamePlayers NZ.

Tuesday, 22 June 1999

I have been asked by Brian Walker, the producer of ICC 2, to run a poll asking fans to specify what feature they would like out of 3D Highlights or Multi-player and additions to existing gameplay. You can vote using the poll form above. Anyone voting for 3D Highlights over gameplay is not a fan of the game :-)

Got my information slightly wrong yesterday - the demo of ICC 2 will be appearing on Ultimate PC along with a preview not on PC-Pro. The magazine is due to go on sale 7th July.

It has been confirmed that CricketGames.com will have 10 copies of ICC 2 to give away as competition prizes. I will try and get the competition up and running very soon so winners can get their prizes when the game is released.

Updated Feedback page - added brief notes from Brian in response to all feedback received so far.

Monday, 21 June 1999

The release date of July 2nd that has been mentioned here and on several other sites is not quite right. Development of the game is scheduled to finish on the 2nd and Brian has confirmed this is still on target. The actual release is likely to happen a week later on the 9th as it will take some time to master, duplicate and distribute.

Spoke to Empire today and got some potentially very exciting news. CricketGames.com has hopefully been allocated 10 copies of ICC 2 to give away as competition prizes. I am now trying to dream up a competition format that is slightly challenging and also ideally helps the site/ICC 2 in some way.

Also heard from Empire today that if you don't want to download the demo you can order it for free on CD-ROM by contacting cssales@empire.co.uk. Not sure if this is limited to UK customers or whether it includes overseas as well. Also worth noting that the demo will be on the July issue of PC-Pro which is due out very soon.

Sunday, 20 June 1999

Updated Links page - added Link to I-2 the unofficial ICC 2 site from the same team that brought you Indigo. They already have an updated photo download for the demo.

Friday, 18 June 1999

Updated Links page - added Link to official ICC 2 pages by Empire which went live this week.

Saturday, 12 June 1999

The official Empire ICC2 page was meant to go live friday but I could not find it. The ICC team have no control over when the pages are updated - this is done by Empire in the States as far as I am aware.

The Demo of International Cricket Captain 2 has been released. I have not yet downloaded it as it is big at 20 Mb for the demo and 18 Mb for the commentary. I will download it later this weekend. Anyone who has downloaded it please send in feedback about it. Indigo mentions that it is waiting for permission to release the 'secret' location of the files. I have not been asked the same thing - indeed the email I got says

The International Cricket Captain 2 Web Demo is being uploaded in two parts to the ftp site.

Cricketdemo2.zip (being uploaded now, should be done by 6pm)
commentary2.zip (has uploaded already)

These can be accessed by the general public (and anyone else who wants to) via a standard web brower or by typing ftp://www.empire-us.com/public/demos/ into the address bar.

Both files are around 20Mb in size.

Created Downloads page - added direct download links for the demo and the commentary.

Tuesday, 8 June 1999

After hearing of the possibility of an ICC 2 demo soon I emailed Chris and Brian to get the news confirmed or denied.

Brian's reply - We should have a demo up on the new site by the end of this week. It will be a 20Mb download without sound.

Chris's reply - We finished the demo a few days ago, so it'll be on line as soon as the web site goes up.

This is excellent news and should give us an early chance to see the new features added to the game. After the disappointment of World Cup Cricket 99 this could be the killer cricket game this summer. Personally I always prefer simulation to arcade games.
